Richfield is a first-ring suburb with many opportunities. It was named for the rich farmland that was prevalent long before the homes were built. Prior to 1900's, Richfield comprised a much larger area, containing most of what is now today South Minneapolis as well as parts of Edina and St. Louis Park. In 1886, St. Louis Park was formed and in 1889, Edina was formed. Minneapolis annexed portions of Richfield in the 1880's thru the 1920's. These changes are now reflected in the current Richfield boarders.
After World War II, Richfield soon became a popular area for returning veterans. There were (and still are) many affordable homes. These homes helped Richfield increase in population about 4 times during this period.
Richfield also has many parks and a natural preserve called the Wood Lake Nature Center, a 150-acre park that is operated by the city. It has wetlands, walking paths, cattail marshes and an interpretive center--just to name a few of its amenities. Richfield also has an aquatic center and an ice arena. As you can tell, there is plenty to do in Richfield. Why not start the search for your Richfield home here?
