The Luminary Loppet is the main event of the City of the Lakes Loppet Festival, and it's to celebrate winter in all its glory. It is the Loppet Foundation's biggest fundraiser of the year. It's hard to describe, but it's beautiful to witness and participate in.

The Loppet Foundation's website states their belief that the outdoors are for everyone. They believe in connections and camaraderie, and they are committed to diverse communities.

The Luminary Loppet is interwoven with the other activities at the festivities. What I mean is that there are stunning displays of luminaries (lanterns) placed carefully all around. You can wander around and marvel at the intricacies while you take in the activities that are going on around you.

These activities/performances include the Ice Pyramid, Fire Dancers, Ice-ster island, the Enchanted Forest, and much more. There is cocoa to warm you up and other treats as well. There is an REI Luminary Party that has live music and more. All adults receive a free Surly beer at the party.

This event is marvel and truly needs to be seen/experienced for its majesty.
