Mandarin Kitchen was opened in 1991 by Mr. Wong because he wanted to bring the Cantonese flavors from Hong Kong to Minnesota. He started with simple slightly Americanized dishes and then gradually elevated the cuisine by introducing seafood and handmade dim sum to the menu--also, Cantonese vegetables.

Their menu is vast and varied. It has dishes such as Sliced Pork with Taro Hot Pot, Wonton Fun Rice Noodle Soup, Fried Crispy Quail, and Shrimp with Salted Fish Fried Rice. There are also vegetarian dishes and tofu dishes for those who do not eat meat. Some of the tofu dishes do have meat, but several do not.

They are well-known for their dim sum, and they are definitely the place to be for weekend lunches. People are willing to wait for up to an hour (and sometimes more) to be able to eat these delicacies. Their dim sum menu is substantial as well, and it's split in different categories. They have favorites such as Steamed Shrimp Suimai BBQ Pork Pastry, and Pan-fried Turnip Cake.

They also have Special Dishes and Premier Dishes, and a few of those dishes are Clam with Black Bean Sauce, Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf, Scallops Dumpling, and Fruit Tart.
