Wacipi (or powwow) means 'they dance' in the Dakota language, and it's a chance to gather and celebrate Native American culture together. The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Wacipi happens twice a year. Once in April and once in August in which the SMSC celebrate their heritage through dancing, drumming, and much more.

There are also moccasin games for the adults, and a 5K and youth run as well.

They welcome visitors from the general public as long as the latter are respectful of the community members and their traditions.
